Import point CSV and TSV survey coordinates
FieldToCAD imports point-list CSV/TSV files locally, maps common header aliases, and asks you to confirm whether the coordinates are local/ground points or already-reduced grid coordinates before transformation or export.
How to convert with FieldToCAD
- 1. Prepare a header row: Include point/id, easting/east/x, and northing/north/y columns. Elevation and code are optional.
- 2. Drop the CSV: FieldToCAD parses comma, tab, and semicolon-delimited point lists in the browser.
- 3. Confirm units: Choose metres, US survey feet, or international feet in the CSV review dialog.
- 4. Confirm coordinate intent: Mark the file as local/ground coordinates or already-reduced grid coordinates in a selected CRS.
- 5. Validate and export: Review the map and warnings before LandXML or FBK export.
Comparison
| Method | Typical time | Risk |
|---|---|---|
| FieldToCAD | ~2 min | Explicit units and grid/local review |
| Spreadsheet | 15+ min | No CRS or double-scaling guard |
| Manual CAD import | 10+ min | Easy to swap east/north or foot units |
CSV point files are common handoff artifacts, but they rarely carry enough metadata to prove whether coordinates are localized ground values or already-reduced grid eastings/northings. FieldToCAD treats that as a required review step.
When a CSV is confirmed as already-reduced grid coordinates, FieldToCAD writes the selected EPSG metadata into the normalized survey model, resets localization to identity, and runs the same Active Armor centroid guard used for JobXML Reductions.
